TENSION
Prolonged stress, childhood
traumas, lack of touch and negative thoughts can cause a number of disorders
including muscular tension, anxiety, raised blood pressure*, digestive problems,
headaches and insomnia.
Headache is a common symptom
which may be due to a head injury, high blood pressure* and many conditions of
the eyes, ears, nose and throat. However, such conditions account for only a few
patients who consult a physician because of headache. The remainder usually
suffer from muscle tension headache, migraine or head pain.
Muscles of the upper back,
neck* and shoulders can hold a great amount of tension and give rise to
considerable pain. Therapeutic massage with acupressure, gentle stretches and mobilisations will
counteract these effects; muscles become relaxed, pain is relieved, breathing
becomes deeper and emotional tension is released.
*Recent
research suggests that having regular neck massage can lower blood pressure and
reduce the risk of stroke and heart disease. Researchers from Leeds
University found signals
from the neck play a key role in helping the brain maintain blood pressure.
