Exercise, we all know, is good for us. It elevates the heart rate and increases its efficiency, increases the blood flow to the skin, provides oxygen to the tissues and releases chemicals in the brain which make us feel better. However, the demands of the sport can sometimes injure tendons and ligaments which become stretched beyond their limits. It also tears the fibers, stretches the fascia and leaves the muscles stiff and sore due to a build up of toxins. Lack of proper muscle conditioning before and after exercise can lead to tight muscles and a build up of waste products. Massage will increase the supply of blood to the muscles, take away waste products through the lymphatic system, break up fibrosis, relax spasm, eliminate the pain caused by scar tissue and adhesions, maintain joint mobility and help prevent cramp, stiffness and overuse injuries.
